A new, interactive viral site launched for Warner Bros. Television and FOX's upcoming Batman prequel Gotham provides fans with a 3D, clickable environment that lets them help "investigate the Wayne murder."

You can check it out here.

The 360-degree environment allows viewers to click and drag to look around in a circle as though you're standing in the center of the crime scene. You're surrounded on all sides by characters, references and in-jokes from Batman history, mostly in the form of promotional photos and trailer clips that we've seen before, repackaged in a slightly different way.

All told, there are 23 pieces of "evidence" to collect by clicking on small, red boxes around the crime scene. Much of it hasn't got anything obvious to do with the Wayne murder but is instead setting out to establish some of the villains and supporting characters (and a couple, inexplicably, are just police badges with the caption "Gotham needs you"). It's a fun, little interactive find-and-click game, but fans who have been paying attention to Gotham all along won't find much new here.

Along with the Gotham Gazette, this marks the second, fairly elaborate viral site launched for Gotham, which is one of the TV season's most anticipated new shows. The idea, of course, is to create a feeling of "event" around next week's series premiere of the show, although obviously the strategy owes something to the wildly successful viral campaign for The Dark Knight, which set the bar for not only Batman and Warner Bros. but for the film industry as far as how to run such a promotional effort.
