Are you excited yet for the second season of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? We expect you are, but if you're not, let us help!

We're recapping the five best moments from the shows first season. There were plenty of twists and turns to choose from, but we've narrowed it down for you reading pleasure.

Check out our picks below:

Welcome to T.A.H.I.T.I.

One of the biggest questions going into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was how Agent Phil Coulson was alive after being stabbed through the hart by Loki in The Avengers. According to Coulson, he was just on vacation in Tahiti, but it was clear from the word go that there was going on with Coulson's not being dead than even he knew.

When we finally got an answer to that question, it only opened up an entirely new set of questions. Coulson eventually found project T.A.H.I.T.I., a mysterious blue alien, and the GH 325 substance that brought him back from the dead.

We still don't know the true origin of the alien, or the full extent of how GH 325 has effected Coulson, but this remains one of the first season's most talked about moments.

Ward shows his true colors.

Agent Grant Ward had been Coulson's strong right hand. An expert field operations agent, mentor to Skye, and lover to Melinda May, Ward had a secret: he was working for Hydra. With Garrett, Ward's mentor, revealed as the Clairvoyant and captured, Ward finally played his hand, killing Victoria Hand and her escort and freeing Garrett. Most fans will agree that this moment is where the show finally began to really find its footing.

Fitz's sacrifice/Fury's rescue.

Ward wasn't kidding when he revealed himself as a bad guy. With Fitz and Simmons locked in a sealed unit on the bus, Ward jettisoned them into the ocean and left them to die. Fitz and Simmons came up with a way to escape, but it would require at least one of them to make a huge sacrifice. Fitz made that sacrifice, and it would have been in vain if not for the timely arrival of Nick Fury, who gave them the duo a much needed lift.

Coulson is an Avenger / Fury passes the torch

When Coulson discovered that it was Project T.A.H.I.T.I. that had brought him back from the grave, he was more than a little upset. The project had been crapped because of the dangerous side effects it caused in its subjects, but even before that it had been intended for use only in the event that one of the Avengers should fall.

So why had he been brought back? Coulson posed that question to Nick Fury, who responded to Coulson by saying bringing back and Avenger is exactly what he did. This is a huge moment for Coulson, who has idolized heroes like Captain America since he was a boy. On top that, Fury names Coulson as his successor as director of S.H.I.E.L.D., tasking him with rebuilding that organization from the ground up. Quite the promotion for Coulson.

Garrett returns!...or not.

In what may be the most Whedonesque moment of the show so far, the Season 1 big bad, John Garrett, returns from death as a bigger, badder, Deathlok-esque killing machine. He starts doing his villain monologue thing, only to be instantly exploded by Coulson's intimidatingly large gun. The scene added a nice bit of levity to the series finale, and it was nice to see that, even at the end of Season 1, the show was still not taking itself too seriously.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 2 premieres September 23 on ABC.
