Despite reports from Playbill and Entertainment Weekly, the characters in the forthcoming film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods have not been renamed to match their Disney counterparts.

A minor controversy erupted Friday when a description on Disney.com misidentified Rapunzel's prince as Flynn Rider and Cinderella's Prince and stepmother as Prince Charming and Lady Tremaine, respectively. Those aren't their names in the original musical but rather in the Disney films Tangled and Cinderella.

When Disney started to be deluged with upset theatre fans, though, they quickly fixed the website and told EW that those names were never actually changed in the film, and the characters will retain their original names from the play, as was always the plan.

Into the Woods stars Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman and Johnny Depp and will be in theaters on Christmas Day.
