The CW have ordered three additional scripts for The Flash ahead of its premiere next month.

The series, which is joined in the order by Jane the Virgin, is one of the most anticipated new cable series and the order comes just ahead of Warner Bros. TV and DC Entertainment's other big superhero debut, Gotham, which hits the airwaves tonight.

The original order had been for 13 episodes, with 22 being a "full season" order at The CW. Last year, all three of their then-freshman series -- ReignThe Tomorrow People and The Originsls -- got an adidtional three scripts ordered around this time, with a full back nine order coming for each of them later. Two of the three returned for second seasons this year, with only The Tomorrow People cancelled. The loss of that series, ironically, freed up Robbie Amell to play Firestorm on The Flash.

A script order does not guarantee production of the extra episodes but keeps the producers and writing staff intact and working on the series. In three weeks when the series debuts on TV, it's likely a strong performance will go a long way toward an early order for a full season.
