While speaking to Yahoo on the press tour for Gone Girl, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice star Ben Affleck revealed the origin of the back-and-forth Internet rivalry between Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Star Wars Episode VII that began back in July.

"I think it was started because JJ [Abrams] and Colin Anderson, who is a great [camera] operator who always works on my movies, and JJ is always trying to steal, and I'm trying to steal back, sent me a picture of the two of them wearing cheap Batman masks," explains Affleck. "I showed it to Zack [Snyder], and said 'this is bulls***, we have to do something'."

"Something" has amounted to photos like Affleck's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice co-star Henry Cavill dressed up like a Jedi, and Star Wars Episode VII star John Boyega dressed up as Batman, and a video of the Batmobile hidden beneath the Millennium Falcon.

"I think it's cool. The sort of meta-awareness of these movies, and the two directors going back and forth...I like it, it's cool," Affleck adds.

Star Wars Episode VII opens December 18 2015.

Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice opens March 25, 2016.
