Directing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller dropped a few hints about what they have planned for the Lego Batman movie.

During a podcast interview with Empire Online, the directors stated they plan to pay homage to the Caped Crusader's rich history.

"Rest assured that every era of Batman filmmaking will be acknowledged," Miller said. "There have been so many interpretations of Batman and there is so much to play with there. There are 40 versions of his origin story alone."

Both Miller and Lord had thoughts on the idea of Lego Movie spinoffs in general.

"The thing is about these movies is that each of them have their own tone and their own voice," Miller said. "We're doing this Ninjago one with Charlie Bean, we're working on the Batman one, and each one of them feels like its own movie, but obviously they all exist in the universe that the Lego movie existed in, and so finding that balance has been part of the trick."

"It's like we started with The Avengers and now we're going to spin off and explore the different worlds, then come back," Lord added.

Last month Warner Bros revealed plans to give the popular Lego Batman his own spinoff/crossover from the Lego Movie. Warner Bros is so gung-ho about the Lego Caped Crusader that The Lego Movie sequel has been pushed back.

Will Arnett is slated to reprise his role as the Lego Dark Knight in the new film that's aiming for a 2017 release.
