Captain Marvel Movie: Five Villains That Could Appear

Here at ComicBook.com, we're pretty excited about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. The film will feature Carol Danvers, as the first female superhero to headline a Marvel superhero movie.

But who will she face off against? We can't know for sure, but we can make a few guesses.

Carol doesn't have the most popular rogue's gallery, so we had to dig deep here. That said, here are five villains that could show up in the Captain Marvel movie.

Thanos

Captain Marvel will be released between the two Avengers: Infinity War movies, which makes it easy to assume that Thanos' presence will be felt. The question really becomes, how directly involved with Thanos be?

Could Carol be daring enough to try to take Thanos down herself? I wouldn't put it past her, but it seems more likely that she'll have to deal with at least a few of Thanos' henchmen when she hits the screen.

Which leads us to our next candidate…

Nebula

Thanos' daughter left the employ of her father in Guardians of the Galaxy, and there's a pretty good chance that she'll be showing up again in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. We can also see Nebula somehow reentering her father's employ once the Infinity War begins, whether by force or by choice. After seeing her throw down with Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, we think she'd make a perfect sparring partner for Carol.

The Kree

With all this talk of Inhumans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe lately, there's not been a lot of talk about the Kree. We know the Kree are out there, the blue alien in the Guest House is one, and so was Ronan. Once somebody finds that mysterious city on Earth, could it possibly draw the attention of the Kree Empire to Earth?

In the comics, Carol got her powers from the first Captain Marvel, a half-Kree named Mar-Vell. Perhaps this Kree invasion has something to do with how Carol gets her powers in the film universe. And, with the Avengers occupied dealing with Thanos, she may be the Earth's best defense.

A.I.M.

We've seen plenty of Hydra in the Marvel film universe, but none of the other major terrorist organization in the Marvel Universe, A.I.M., or Advanced Idea Mechanics. The organization is made up of mad scientists, perhaps the type who take the chaos of Infinity War as an opportunity to finally reveal themselves and maybe gather up some alien technology. And hey, maybe we'll see M.O.D.O.K.

The Government/The Initiative/Iron Man

After the events of Captain America: Civil War, the United States government is likely not going to be a fan of superheroes. This could cause a conflict for Carol, a member of the U.S. Air Force, when she gets her powers.

In the comics, Carol sided with Iron Man as a pro-registration hero, but she was also a veteran hero and Avenger at that point. She may chose differently if she's a hero who only just got her powers, and the idea gels with rumors that she will show up as part of Captain America's new Avengers team at the end of Age of Ultron.

If this is the case, we may see Carol simply trying to avoid capture by the government after she receives her superpowers.
