In response to numerous press inquiries following their decision to spike the theatrical release of their new film The Interview, Sony Pictures Entertainment told The Hollywood Reporter tonight that the film will not be released to video on demand services in the near future.

THR reported that there is "no further release planned as of now for The Interview," based on a statement they obtained fron Sony.

"Sony Pictures has no further release plans for the film," the statement read.

Distributors refused to screen the film, which was planned for a Christmas release, following threats of terrorist attacks on cinemas. The threats followed a week-long campaign of humiliation against Sony, with hundreds of internal company documents being released to the press via websites operated by what mainstream news outlets are now reporting are hackers working on behalf of the North Korean government.
