In an interview with HeyUGuys, Kingsman: The Secret Service director Matthew Vaughn spoke a bit about the lack of recognition superhero films get from major awards ceremonies like the Oscars and the BAFTAs, specifically in regards to Guardians of the Galaxy.

"[Guardians of the Galaxy] was a lot harder to make than – I'm not going to name the movies – but films where you just plunk a camera here, and there, and you have a good actor. It's crazy. Guardians should have been nominated," Vaughn says.

He also clarified some comments he made about The Dark Knight Trilogy director Christopher Nolan, which he says were taken out of context by the Internet, concerning the dark tone for superheroes that was set by Nolan's work on Batman.

"What I said is Nolan is very good at doing what he did with Batman, and the subject matter of Batman deserved to be dark, but there are other superheroes, like I don't think Superman should be dark. The clue's in the costume, what it should be like…You have to always respect source material, and if you're going to reinvent it, reinvent it in a way that's done in respect, not just for the sake of doing it."

Kingsman: The Secret Service opens in theaters February 13.
