Birdman and The Lego Movie took top honors at this year's Producers Guild Awards.

Birdman won the Producers Guild of America's Darryl F.Zanuck Award for best movie. The Michael Keaton film bested serious contenders such as American Sniper, Boyhood, Foxcatcher, Gone Girl, Grand Budapest Hotel, The Imitation Game, Nightcrawler, The Theory of Everything and Whiplash.

Birdman is the story of a washed up actor, who once played an iconic superhero. He's battling his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career and himself in the days leading up to the opening of a Broadway play.

The Lego Movie took the PGA's top animated movie award — nine days after it was overlooked in the Oscar nominations, Variety reports.

The top PGA TV awards were awarded to Breaking Bad, Orange is the New Black and Fargo.
