In some parallel dimension not terribly different from this one, there exists a Hit-Girl spin-off movie directed by The Raid's Gareth Evans.

This universe, however, is not quite as fortunate. As Kick Ass and Hit Girl creator Mark Millar recently revealed, he came close to creating a spin-off film starring Chloe Grace Moretz's Hit Girl in between the first and second Kick Ass films. But, as with many "What-If?" films, the project fizzled out before any serious efforts were put into motion.

As Millar recalled in an interview with IGN:

"Before Kick-Ass 2 came out we'd been talking about a Hit-Girl spin-off movie" he explained. "We'd even talked to a director – we had a couple of calls with Gareth Evans, who I absolutely love. He's an amazing director. But Gareth's now busy. Matthew [Vaughn] still floats it occasionally. I'm very philosophical about it – I've done my books and I'm really happy with the work and happy with the films. If anything else happens – gravy."

Millar's final thought does give some hope that a Hit-Girl spinoff could happen, if the stars properly aligned. But it seems unlikely, as Millar also revealed that he has no plans to make a Kick Ass 3 film. The follow-up to Matthew Vaughn's Kick Ass film, which adapted Millar's Kick Ass 2 comic series, simply didn't generate enough revenue for a third adaptation of the comic series.

"You know you've always got to listen to the audience, and if people didn't come out in droves for it, it means there's no audience," Millar said. So, if Millar is uninterested in continuing the franchise's flagship series, it's difficult to imagine a spin-off film on a his to-do list.

At the very least, this world still has Kingsman: The Secret Service, another Mathew Vaughn-directed Millar adaptation, to look forward to when it hits theaters on February 13th.
