The perpetrators behind the New England Patriots "deflate-gate" scandal have finally stepped forward, ending the ongoing whodunnit that's racked the NFL for almost two weeks.

The guilty are none other than Marvel and DC Comics' biggest Hollywood stars: Ben Affleck and Chris Evans. The big screen counterparts of Batman and Captain America laid claim to deflating 11 of the New England Patriots' 12 footballs from January 11th's AFC Championship game. But each actor provided a good excuse for why they did they did it during a segment on Jimmy Kimmel Live, claiming to have acted alone for rather noble reasons.

Obviously, Affleck and Evans didn't really deflate the footballs, but it would have been pretty awesome if they did. As New England Patriots fans, both actors took part in the late night show's comedy bit on "deflate-gate," where several other Bostonians (including Matt Damon) claimed responsibility for deflating the balls.

Check out the full video below.

Even if they didn't deflate the footballs, Evans and Affleck will stir up enough damage when they star in 2016's tent pole comic book films Captain America: Civil War and Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
