American Sniper Has Super Bowl Box Office Record In Its Crosshairs

Deadline is reporting that Clint Eastwood's American Sniper will continue to blow away the competition at the North American box office this weekend. Friday's take was a cool $10 million. That boosts its weekend estimates up to $31.3 million. If the American Sniper finishes this weekend with more than $31.12 million it will be the biggest haul for a film during Super Bowl weekend. The current champ is 2008's Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert.

Box office analysts predict the the movie theaters will experience a 70% drop in attendance from Saturday-to-Sunday due to the big game. One of the films that won't be too effected by Sunday's game is Paddington. The family film will finish up its third weekend in second place with an estimated $7.8 million, which will push its domestic total to $50 million.
