Tonight's new trailer for Jurassic World focused heavily on the film's major threat, the Indominus Rex...and as a result, we got lots and lots of glamour shots of the dinosaurs.

The trailer opens on a scene we got a tease of in the Thanksgiving trailer: in a Sea World-style demonstration, a water-borne dinosaur consumes a great white shark for the entertainment of a large crowd.

A quick look at an old Jurassic Park movie adaptation video game provides a map of Isla Nublar that doesn't account for any water attractions...so it isn't just that this is here because the island is now operational; it may also be a recent upgrade to the park.

One assume that, even though it doesn't look like it, this must be an inland attraction, or that they must have some other means of keeping the creature docile and nearby so that it doesn't just wander off into the surrounding waters and start eating things.

It actually looks pretty full in those stands, which might throw some shade on claims that the conflict in this movie is all about dwindling attendance.

In the shot of the crowd, we get a lot of what look like straw hats or fedoras with black bands. A number of men in the audience are wearing them, and at least one woman with a more feminine variety. Is this just an odd wardrobe choice, or maybe is this the JW version of Mickey Mouse ears? They don't look like John Hammond's hat (with had a white band) but probably close enough for jazz.

There are also a number of hand-held cameras, many more than we see mobile phones or tablets, where the audience is taking photos. So...maybe this is a flashback, and that explains how full the stands are?

Anyway, finally we get to what seems to be a Hainosaurus -- the largest variety of a water-based family of lizards called Mosasaurs who were dominant during the Late Cretaceous period.

They're also not dinosaurs, but who are we to be picky? The thing looks cool and it ate a shark.

"The park," we're told as we see tourists in trucks and kayaks mingling among the dinosaurs, "is open."

We see, in particular, two teen boys in their little rolling ball vehicle, as we've seen in every version of every trailer; these are characters we've heard will be key to making the film family-accessible for the audience, not unlike Hammond's grandchildren in the original film.

That's followed by some shots of Chris Pratt's character training Raptors -- "eyes on me!"

It's Pratt who voices the obvious "that seems like a bad idea" when told that they've designed a new, more dangerous dinosaur for the park. That revelation comes from Bryce Dallas Howard's character, apparently in charge of the park, and the voiceover stars with the shot above; the scaffolding and the container-looking boxes are pretty reminiscent of the memorable early sequence in Jurassic Park when things start to go downhill.

We also get a look at Irrfan Khan's character, and a number of teases of the Indominus Rex, although never one really clear shot.

You can check the former out above, and the latter below. (And, yeah, minor spoiler warnings for the red shirt who dies.)

We see that at least some of the dinos aren't entirely digital, as that's pretty obviously a practical prop they're looking after that the I-Rex has apparently killed "for sport."

With the scientists tending to the poor, dying beast it also seems to echo the "sick" triceratops from the first film.

The stakes, meanwhile, are incredibly high this time: instead of a dozen or so people stuck on the island, it's 20,000...and the I-Rex is quickly not the only menace they have.

Pratt's character says that they're going to pull out all the stops to stop the situation and save people -- and we quickly see that their definition of that involves his pet raptors apparently hunting bad dinos with him.

No real surprise there -- we've long expected it -- but still some cool visuals.

And then, finally, yes, we get our homage to the classic T-rex-at-the-SUV scene...
