Nu Image/Millennium Films has hired Christopher Cosmo to pen a new script for Red Sonja, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Red Sonja was created by Conan the Barbarian author Robert E. Howard and comic writer Roy Thomas.

The fantasy sword and sorcery heroine first appeared in Marvel's Conan the Barbarian #23, which was published in 1973. The She-Devil with a Sword made her first feature film appearance in Richard Fleischer's 1985 film Red Sonja, which starred Brigitte Nielsen ("Rocky IV").

In 2010, Robert Rodriguez tried to reboot Red Sonja with his then girlfriend Rose McGowan in the title role, but injuries she incurred from a car accident prevented her from portraying her. In 2011, Simon West was going to take a crack at it with Amber Heard considered for the lead, but that too fell through.

Cosmo hasn't written a lot of screenplays. In 2012, he sold his first script, The Fall, to QED. "He is also developing an actioner titled Scouts and Raiders and is prepping to go out with his comic/movie project Langley High, in the coming weeks."
