Daredevil Showrunner Says It's "Much More Geared Towards Adults"

In the latest issue of Empire Magazine, there is some great coverage on Netflix's new Marvel Comics-based television series Daredevil.

So far, we've only seen Daredevil wearing a makeshift black costume that is reminiscent of the one he wore in during Frank Miller's run, but the show's costume designer Stephanie Maslansky says there will be an evolution to the red outfit. "In the end, somebody else [in the story] makes his Daredevil costume," Maslansky told Empire. "What's really exciting is the evolution of it, and how he comes to have it made."

The evolution to the red costume is something that showrunner Steven S. DeKnight has always found curious since Matt Murdock has a minor disability. "I mean, one, he's blind," DeKnight told Empire. "Did he stitch it together himself? How did he manage all that? So, actually getting him to that point I thought was really interesting."

The most exciting thing about putting a show on Netflix is that Marvel doesn't have to play by network rules, like they do with Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..  If they want their character to swear - swear. If they want their character to bleed - bleed. How far will Daredevil push the Marvel boundaries? "Netflix, of course, they don't have a problem with pushing it," DeKnight said. "I mean, they go anywhere from G to NC-17. But the Marvel brand, that's a little different.They're obviously not comfortable going that far with it, though they've allowed us to push it much further than you've seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since starting with Iron Man. It is much more geared towards adults. We call it PG-16. We don't quite get to R, but we kiss right up to it."
