Tim Curry ("Clue") absolutely shined as Pennywise, the terrifying clown that preys upon the children of a small town in Maine, in the 1990 television adaptation of Stephen King's It. But who will play him in the upcoming film, which will be directed by True Detective executive producer Cary Fukunaga. "This will be my first movie in the US and I'm still trying to find the perfect guy to play Pennywise," Fukunaga told Brazilian newspaper O Globo  (via Bloody-Disgusting).

In order to make the film work in the present day the part of the story that takes place in the past had to be altered, but that's okay since the book's author gave Cary the thumbs up. "It's really good to know Stephen [King] likes what we did," Fukunaga added. "We (Fukunaga and writers David Kajganich and Chase Palmer) changed names, dates (the story is originally set in the 60′s) dynamics, but the spirit is similar to what he'd like to see in cinemas, I think."

One of the challenges with adapting a Stephen King novel to film is trying to cram all of the story into a two or two and half hour film. Fukunaga has struggled with that challenge for five years, that is how long he has worked on the project. "Everybody tried to put too much into it, telling it from the perspective of the adult and the child in a two hour movie. It didn't fit," Fukunaga said. "So I decided to throw it all away and start from scratch."

Who do you think should play Pennywise?
