The MTV Movie Awards nominations have been announced and superhero and other genre entertainment films are well represented. Guardians of the Galaxy is in a three-way tie for most nominations, along with YA romance adaptation The Fault in Our Stars and comedy film Neighbors.

Guardians of the Galaxy will compete with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, Gone Girl, American Sniper, Boyhood, The Fault in our Stars, Whiplash and Selma for the MTV Movie of the Year Award. Birdman, Lucy, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, X-Men: Days of Future Past, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 all also received individual nominations.
