With only scattered, brief appearances since the pilot episode of AMC's The Walking Dead, it's perhaps surprising that Lennie James' Morgan has turned out to be such a fan favorite...but now that we know he and Rick Grimes' group of survivors appear to be on a similar course, one has to wonder: Where is he, and what will it mean for the group when he arrives?

There are a number of possibilities for the character, including a not-too-happy ending from the comics (who doesn't have one of those in this series, though?), so we figured it was worth taking a little time to think about them...

The comics

In the comics, Morgan joined Rick's group when they went to stock up in Cynthiana. He was with them when they got to Alexandria and ultimately died when a horde of walkers started to penetrate the wall, bitten by a zombie and then killed by Michonne after he loses consciousness, in the hopes of preventing reanimation.

We could see him join the group soon, although it's been widely speculated that the horde would descend on Alexandria in the season finale, and if that's the case, it's hard to imagine that they would build up his return with all these little hints and cameos only to kill him almost immediately after he arrived.

The Wolves

Could Morgan be a victim of The Wolves, whoever they are? Or perhaps a member of them? The former seems more likely than the latter since he's not exactly social most of the time...but in either case, I'm skeptical. Yes, it would help to draw a couple of disparate, long-teased plot threads together but having him killed would present the same narrative problems as mentioned above, while having him join up with a group that are seemingly villains would pretty much be the same story we already played out with Daryl last year.

Daryl

Speaking of which! Now that Daryl is on the road with Aaron, it's theoretically possible that, however he comes to be part of the Alexandria community, Morgan could do so by connecting with those two. Creating a new dynamic within the group and relationships not dependent on Rick before finally coming back to the settlement to meet up with people he's seen before could be something very interesting to explore.

Also, we've heard that Daryl is in "trouble" in the season finale. It wouldn't be entirely unbelievable to wait on Morgan until the season premiere next year and have him come to Daryl's aid, if the season ends on a cliffhanger.
