"Part 4" of Bloodline opens at night, as some men look out onto the ocean with binoculars at what at first appears to be an empty boat. Underneath the boat, a group of attempted immigrants is sitting quietly, being smuggled into the Keys. Suddenly, a man enters the boat above the water and lights a fire. The people below start to panic as their cabin fills with smoke – until it explodes entirely.

In the morning, John (Kyle Chandler) and Marco (Enrique Murciano) investigate the front half of a boat, as the back half has been blown off. They meet Kevin (Norbert Leo Butz) on the dock, who says he will help Danny fix up their father's truck. John and Marco are able to connect the boat to the body of the dead girl, so they decide to search for other nearby burn victims.

Robert (Sam Shepard) sits peacefully outside the hospital, playing ukulele and remembering Sarah, until his thoughts are abruptly filled with harsher memories of young Danny. He stops playing when a string breaks and tells Sally (Sissy Spacek) that he wants to go home.

Linda still hasn't filed Robert's will, in case he's changed his mind, but he doesn't want to re-read the whole document nor think it over. Later, she meets Alec again, who still hasn't left, to have sex. She tells him at a work meeting afterwards that it might be best to cancel the real estate project that's she been advising. However – they're so impressed with her service that his co-worker Susannah (Julie Claire) asks if she wants to join a larger firm in New York. Linda says that she wants to stay in the Keys.

When Robert returns home, Danny (Ben Mendelsohn) is worried that he won't be welcome anymore, but Sally convinces him to stay. In fact, Danny, Robert, Kevin, and John all attend one of Ben's (Brandon Larracuente) baseball games later and seem to get along well. Robert falls asleep and dreams of Sarah, who has a seahorse necklace.

Danny and Kevin struggle to bring the old truck back to life. It seems like they are becoming friends again, laughing and joking with each other. Danny returns to the hotel to give a new group of guests a tour. Robert plays the ukulele nearby, remembering Sarah. His memory turns dark, and a young Danny is shown racing to the shore in a boat, shouting for his father.

Next, Marco makes a breakthrough in the case, discovering an incident where the gas that was found on both the boat the girl's body had been recently stolen nearby. There's security footage from the area, but it's too grainy and mostly indecipherable.

Kevin runs into an old "friend" at the shipyard, who tells him that some developers are looking to buy the place. He meets with Robert later, and tells him that he really thinks Danny is "turning it around." That night, the two brother successfully get the truck up and running.

Later, another body is found with similar burn wounds as the first body found. Marco thinks that it's unlikely that the boat explosion was an accident.

Next, Robert begins to review his will, but quickly stops and puts it away. He goes outside, where Danny is helping two young guests prepare for their swimming trip. One of them has a necklace similar to Sarah's seahorse necklace. Robert drives Danny, John, and Kevin around that afternoon in his now-repaired truck.

Linda asks Alec to her office, wanting to know if Susannah asked her to come to New York as an indirect method of getting Linda to move closer to him. He says that anything she suggested was based purely on merit, and that while she did a good job, he certainly didn't recommend her.

That evening, Robert tries to talk to Sally about the will, but she doesn't want to discuss it. Instead, Robert takes Danny out to dinner. He admits to his son that he wants him "to leave and not come back." Danny thinks that "too many memories" are the cause of his failed attempts to stay home. Robert even tries to give Danny a check so that he can start a new life somewhere else.

Danny interprets the offer as a negotiation; Robert's paying him to leave. Danny thinks the amount of money on the check is not nearly enough for him to leave, especially since he's not in the will, which he admits his knowledge of. Robert offers him to wire any amount of money to Danny in the morning, if he's gone. Danny accepts the deal and reminds his father that he will never see his face again.

More of Robert's memories of Sarah are revealed. She appears to have drowned while out on the ocean with Danny.
