Morgan

With The Walking Dead season finale looming, there is a lot of speculation about whether or not we'll see Morgan, and if we do, what will happen to him. The character, portrayed by Lennie James, is the only one besides Rick who was seen in the very first episode and is still alive on the show today. If the show's comic book source material is any sort of omen, Morgan is in trouble once he finds Alexandria. Be warned, spoilers follow for The Walking Dead comic books and potentially for the television series.

We discuss Morgan's fate in the video below:

In the comics, Rick and Morgan reunited a while back compared to where the show is in terms of story line. Rick, Abraham, and Carl were looking for supplies back in Cynthiana when Morgan hit Rick in the head with a shovel, much like his son Duane did during their first encounter. A bearded, crazy looking Morgan recognized Rick, though, and broke down emotionally.

Later, Morgan explains to Rick that his son, Duane, had been bitten and reanimated. He's been feeding Duane, but anybody he killed was out of necessity of self defense. Rick asks Morgan to leave the house and join the group on the way to D.C. and Morgan agrees. Before leaving, he shoots Duane's chain and allows him to roam free inside the house.

After the group arrives at Alexandria, Morgan accepts a job as a chef. He battles with his sanity and struggles to be social. At one point, Morgan and Michonne sleep together but Morgan thinks he has disrespected his wife and starts acting uncomfortable around Michonne.

Morgan would meet his ultimate fate in the comics, though. When Rick and Peter have their disagreement, it ends with Rick shooting Peter. That gunshot unleashes a series of events that first lead a group called the DC Scavengers to Alexandria. They try, and fail, to come inside, but the gunfight attracts a massive horde of walkers to the Safe-Zone.

Rick and Morgan try to fight off a fraction of the horde that took down a wall, but Morgan is bitten and gives up, feeding himself to the walkers. Rick won't allow it, though. He rescues Morgan from that demise and shortly after, Morgan decides he wants to live. So, Michonne cuts off the infected arm with a swing of her katana. This goes much like Tyreese's death in the show during the midseason premiere, as Morgan is unable to fight off the damage caused to his body by the wounds and dies.

It would seem silly to kill Morgan so quickly on the show, especially considering a few things: Tyreese already had his death and there's only a handful of characters still around from the first season. In addition to those, there must be a reason the writers have been stringing viewers along this season with post-credits scenes showing Lennie James' character trying to catch up to Rick's group.

It seems pretty clear that the group will meet up with Morgan again. While some argue that the cut up body Aaron and Daryl stumbled upon in "Try" was Morgan, I don't think for one second that is true. I think, in fact, Morgan was the light they saw off in the woods. Will Morgan reunite with the group, or at least Daryl and Aaron, in the season finale? I think so.

It will be interesting to see Morgan interact with Daryl and Aaron because he has never met either character. Neither of them know to say, "Hey Morgan, we're with Rick." Morgan may still be pretty crazy and battling mental illness like he was when we saw him in "Clear" a couple seasons ago. It's also possible that Morgan happens to stumble upon the community and it's walls, but that would feel too easy. Nothing is ever easy on this show.

As for Morgan's role at Alexandria, I don't think he'll be killed off like he was in the comics. He'll probably become a chef and keep quiet around the community for a while and be another wild card for the writers because we can't predict his future since he died in the comics, much like Carol (or Daryl who never existed). It's a possibility that when Negan is introduced, Morgan gets Glenn's death-by-Lucille. Morgan is the only character besides Rick who was seen in the first episode, so viewers have known him for a long time. It will have an impact. For Rick, Morgan is a symbol of hope for the world, which Rick definitely needs. Reuniting will probably restore Rick's faith in a future and if Morgan is killed by the most inhumane character ever written into the comics, Negan, Rick will be shattered.

What do you think is going to happen with Morgan on The Walking Dead? Will he make it to the Alexandria Safe-Zone?
