In an Instagram post, Hugh Jackman has seemingly dismissed claims that he'll play Wolverine in X-Men: Apocalypse, indicating that the forthcoming sequel to The Wolverine will be the last time he'll play the superhero.

Jackman, who took over the role of Wolverine from Dougray Scott after Scott was unable to film X-Men, has been playing the role since 2000. Last year, he reunited with X-Men and X2: X-Men United director Bryan Singer for X-Men: Days of Future Past, the actor's seventh outing as the character.

He's appeared in two previous solo films as Wolverine, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine.

There had been unconfirmed rumors that Jackman would be among those making a cameo appearance in X-Men: Apocalypse, which is due in theaters next year from Singer. There had also been speculation that he might cameo in the currently-in-production Deadpool adaptation.

Of course, it's possible that he could either not consider cameo appearances a true role, or that he's trying to keep them secret, and that he could appear in either or both of those films...but that seems unlikely since nobody knew that the third Wolverine solo movie was expected to be his last, so there would be no point bringing it up just to be deceptive.

The as-yet-untitled Wolverine sequel is set to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
