Batman V. Superman Costume Designer Talks Batsuit And Aquaman

While there are many hands working on Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice's production, one of the most important may be costume designer Michael Wilkinson's. On top of styling the worlds of Metropolis and Gotham City, Wilkinson was also in charge of visualizing Justice Leaguers Batman and Aquaman.

Wilkinson opened up about the daunting task in a recent interview, while also teasing what fans can expect in the next cinematic interpretation of the Caped Crusader. For starters, this Dark Knight will carry the tradition started by Christopher Nolan's, in that he will be able to turn his head. Before 2008's The Dark Knight, all previous Bat-cowls were one piece, restricting the actor's neck from any movement.

"It's a very important thing to Zack that the Batsuit would be comfortable and very flexible, but then would be able to perform in a very natural and forceful way," Wilkinson told Fashionista.com. "So a lot of incredible engineering went into the development of the new black cowl."

Wilkinson went on to explain how Zack Snyder's DC Superheroes should look as realistic as possible. While stories involving flying men and sea kings obviously calls for some suspension of disbelief, Wilkinson said that Snyder "Really wants these character to connect directly to our world."

Case in point: Aquaman. Wilkinson said it was a "huge challenge" reinventing Aquaman's classic orange-and-green look into something that audiences would find more "cool." "People have a lot of complaints about the orange skin and the green tights and that whole thing," Wilkinson said.
