Paramount has hired Aaron Berg to rewrite the script for G.I. Joe 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The third live-action G.I. Joe movie will be directed by D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye, I Am Number Four). Earlier drafts had been penned by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Evan Daugherty and Shooter's Jonathan Lemkin,

Berg penned one of the hottest spec scripts in Hollywood with Section 6. That's the script that was about the origins of the British intelligence agency M16. It irked MGM because they believed it was a James Bond knockoff and filed a lawsuit. That suit was settled several months ago and is moving forward with Joe Cornish as the director and Jack O'Connell as the lead.

2009's Rise of Cobra grossed $302 million and 2013's Retaliation grossed $375 million.

As of right now, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is the only actor set to reprise his role. G.I. Joe 3 is expected in theaters next year.
