Happy Birthday! Robert Downey Jr. Turns 50 Today

Today is Robert Downey, Jr.'s birthday.

One of the biggest, highest-grossing actors in Hollywood, Robert Downey Jr. is known worldwide for his transformative role as Iron Man/Tony Stark. Since 2008, Downey Jr. has portrayed the Marvel Comics character in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3, and The Avengers (along with a cameo in The Incredible Hulk). He will don the armor this spring for a featured role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, then again in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. 

But Downey Jr. doesn't just anchor the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He's also the star in the rebooted Sherlock Holmes franchise, starring in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. He also held memorable roles in Tropic Thunder—where he received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor—The Soloist, and Zodiac. He also starred in the cult classic Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, where he worked alongside former Batman actor Val Kilmer.
