Marvel Animated Projects Could Tie Into Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Entertainment is exploring animated projects that would be connected to their live-action universe.

During the "Marvel Animation Presents" panel at Emerald City Comic Con 2015, Marvel's Vice President of Animation Development and Production Cort Lane was asked if fans can expect the company to produce an animated project that takes place in the Marvel cinematic universe. To which Lane replied, "I can't announce anything, but things are in the works."

Lane added that the Netflix shows are acting as a "proof-of-concept" for tie-ins to the current MCU.

Let's be honest, Marvel could use the MCU tie-in boost as their animated shows and films of late haven't been as well received as their live-action products. Personally, I'd like to see Marvel create animated one-shots. They could replace the live-action one-shots that Marvel had been producing for DVD releases of their films. It is a nice way to tell a bit more backstory on characters that Marvel films can't spend too much screen time on.

Currently, Marvel is reaching children with their kid-friendly shows, like Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., Ultimate Spider-Man: Web-Warriors and Marvel's Avengers Assemble, but it'd be swell to get something more complex like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.
