Michelle MacLaren exited Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman movie amid what was called "creative differences" in early reports. Emerging new details shed light on the specifics of those differences, and hint at what kind of film Warner Bros. wants Wonder Woman to be.

Multiple Sources tell Variety that MacLaren's vision of Wonder Woman was an epic origin story similar to Braveheart. Warner Bros. reportedly wants to go a different route, with a more character-driven narrative and less action, a movie they believe the newly hired director Patty Jenkins can provide.

Warner Bros. moved quickly to find a new director in order to keep Wonder Woman on schedule, and is now moving quickly to get Jenkins up to speed on the pre-production that has been done already. The next step is reportedly casting the male love interest to play opposite Gal Gadot. Warner Bros. is said to be sending test offers to several actors sometime in the coming week.

Wonder Woman is scheduled for theatrical release on June 23, 2017.
