While being a Jedi would be a an undoubtedly sweet gig, the Order's whole "no marriage" stipulation could be a buzz-kill for any Knight's love life.

But it doesn't take a Jedi Master to recognize that drag. Recently, a young Star Wars fan named Colin wrote to Lucafilm about this bogus rule, asking why a Jedi cannot marry. You see, the young Padawan just wants to find love in his life without running the risk of becoming a Sith lord. And we thought kids only worried about cooties.

But instead of letting Colin's question float amongst the galaxy, Lucasfilm actually responded to him with an assuring letter. While it didn't necessarily say that he could become a Jedi and still get hitched, it did clarify that marriage will not result in a descent into the Dark Side. So, we'll call it half of a win.  Lucasfilm even gave Colin a bag of Star Wars goodies—maybe as tools to woo some young Star Wars ladies on the playground?

You can read their full response below.

Hello, Colin,
Thank you so much for writing to us with your question. It sounds like the Force is strong with you, and you are showing great wisdom by asking your question. To be a Jedi is to truly know the value of friendship, of compassion, and of loyalty, and these are values important in a marriage. The Sith think inward, only of themselves. When you find someone that you can connect to in a selfless way, then you are on the path of the light, and the dark side will not take hold of you. With this goodness in your heart, you can be married.
We enclosed a few gifts that we hope you enjoy. Thank you again for writing to us.
May the Force Be With You!
Sincerely,
Your Friends at Lucasfilm

Now, if only Lucasfilm had sent that letter to Anakin Skywalker 10 years ago…
