Gotham: Easter Eggs and DC Comics References in "The Anvil or the Hammer"

This week, Gotham was so plot-heavy that they didn't have a lot of room for winks, nods and asides.

No body, no crime

This is a common adage, and often cited in crime fiction...

...but it's worth mentioning that Psych, which is about half a degree removed from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller's previous series The Mentalist, once had an episode where characters walked around chanting it just like Eddie does here. Fans of the series even put it on a t-shirt.

1007 Mountain Drive

In Batman: The Animated Series, an address is given for Wayne Manor in the episode "The Demon's Quest" stating that it is located at 1007 Mountain Drive, Gotham. This address was used in tonight's episode, on the envelope from Vivus Couriers which contained the copied key.

Lucius Fox

Most recognizable as the role played by Morgan Freeman in The Dark Knight trilogy, Lucius Fox is one of Bruce Wayne's most trusted advisers within Wayne Enterprises, and one of his most reliable allies in business and...other things. His son Lucas is one of the men to use the identity of Batwing.

Nygma's compulsion

Eddie's compulsion to plant puzzles that could incriminate him is something that's always been one of his character's defining traits when squaring off against Batman. Well, one has to start someplace, and the letter from "Dougherty" has literally spelled out Nygma's guilt in the officer's death.
