Though Ultron is burdened with plenty of glorious purpose in this weekend's Avengers: Age of Ultron, many still miss the presence of the Avengers' first foe: Loki.

Sadly, the god of mischief is sitting the latest Avengers adventure out, even though his presence carries a large sway over the film's event. With his Avengers scepter playing a massive role in the sequel's event, one might have expected Thor's cackling brother to worm his way into the story.

And according director Joss Whedon, he actually did. In Whedon's original cut of the film, actor Tom Hiddleston's Loki did have an appearance. But, as Whedon explained, he cut the scene out to make room for Age of Ultron's even bigger moments.

"We did shoot something, but it didn't play," he said. "The movie has so much. It's so filled. We didn't want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus."

You can check out Whedon's full thoughts on Loki in his MTV interview below.

Ah, well. At least Loki fans only have to wait until 2017 for Thor: Ragnarok, where Loki, now the ruler of Asgard, will most certainly play a pivotal role.
