Melissa Benoist Shares Experience Putting On Her Supergirl Costume On For The First Time

A key moment in any superhero's origin story is the moment when they first don their costume. One imagines this must be a similar milestone for the actors who play these characters in film in television.

One of the latest actors to experience that moment is Supergirl's Melissa Benoist. She shared what the experience of putting on the Colleen Atwood designed costume for the first time was like.

"I just had this injury so I had this eye patch on. It was kind of embarrassing," Benoist tells E! News. "But the second I put it on, something shifts inside of me. It's kind of impossible not to feel strength and empowerment and positivity and hope. It really is pretty surreal."

Benoist went on to describe how surreal it is to see herself as Supergirl in action in the now finished pilot.

"I don't recognize myself when I see those scenes," Benoist says. "It's kind of insane. The sheer scope of all of it, it's so epic that it's kind of mind-blowing to see it all put together."

Supergirl will premiere on CBS this fall.
