Vincenzo Natali is the writer and director behind Cube (1997) and Splice (2009), and in 2010, he was attached to direct a Swamp Thing reboot under the watchful eye of producer Joel Silver (Die Hard).

When Natali came on board there was already a script written by Akiva Goldsman (Batman Forever), but it appears that Natali rewrote his own version. On Monday, Natali shared the first four pages of that unmade script.

It begins with a group of mercenaries wading through the swamp on the hunt for Swamp Thing. While this is going on Swamp Thing delivers some thought provoking narration. A few scenes with General Sunderland are intermixed as well. The creature suddenly shows itself and encourages the mercs to kill him.

Just from this small sample you can tell the imagery and dialogue are heavily-influenced from Alan Moore's run, which began with "The Saga of the Swamp Thing" #20 (1984). One of the things that made Moore's take so interesting was that he added a reworked origin. In his version, Alec Holland actually died in the explosion and the special serum he was working on mixed with his dead body and the local flora. Holland was dead, but Swamp Thing ended up with his memories.
