M. Night Shyamalan has said in the past that he wasn't ready to make an Unbreakable sequel, but when he was asked at Comic-Con if he's had a change of heart.

"The short answer to that is yes," Shyamalan told IGN. He then explains his response by saying that a filmmaker, like himself, needs to make films that feel authentic. 16 years ago, when he began working on Unbreakable he was at a certain point in his life where he was thinking of darker and edgier point of views. As he got older, and so did his kids, his focus became family-friendly. Now that his kids are older he feels more comfortable tackling tougher topics once again.

"As you can guess, I don't want to do a traditional second movie. That turns me off," he explained. "The benefit of doing a sequel is everyone is feeling familiar about the content, right? But that actually turns me off... about making movies, for me. It has to be a completely original take if we were going to something, like unexpected."
