Netflix has renewed Sense8, the sci-fi series from writer J. Michael Straczynski and producers Lana and Andy Wachowski, for a second season, they announced today.

The announcement came via Twitter from the official Netflix account, which you can see below:

Freema Agyeman, Aml Ameen, Doona Bae, Jamie Clayton, Tina Desai, Daryl Hannah, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Brian J. Smith, whose characters all share a birthday, celebrated it today with the renewal announcement.

Previously, the network and producers had refused to tip their hand at the TCAs, making it seem as though the show's future was uncertain. Perhaps it was all an orchestrated viral marketing maneuver, though, given the convenience of the 8/8 birthday schtick.
