Chris Evans Explains Captain America's Relationship With Bucky

Captain America doesn't have many close friends, and the few that he does have may or may not be recovering Soviet assassins.

So you'll excuses Steve Rogers, then, for trying his best to reconnect with Bucky Barnes, who's better known to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Winter Soldier. But despite the reprogramming that the Russians did to Cap's former best friend, actor Chris Evans thinks the two's prior friendship is still strong enough to salvage. And since Bucky is one of the few characters who really knows who Steve Rogers is as a person, it makes him an extremely important person in Captain America's life.

As Evans told BuzzFeed at last weekend's D23 Expo, Captain America "struggles so much [and] he doesn't bleed on people. So to have a character who's always taking his conflict in such a personal manner, when he has the opportunity to reconnect in a way that could be purely self-serving — it's not for the greater good, it's not for anyone else, it's just for him and he's put himself last so often, so many times — when you have a character that just remembers him and he has a flash of personal agenda, it's rewarding. I like it. I like those moments where Cap gets to have a little nugget just for himself."

But as to how much that Bucky remembers Captain America remains to be seen. What do you think, readers? Does Captain America need Bucky because he's the only other person who's "out of time?" Let us know in the comments!

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
