Five Attractions/Things We Want In Star Wars Land
Millions of Star Wars Fans surely scoured airplane ticket prices last weekend, when Disney [...]
The Kessel Run
Disney announced that one of the two opening attractions at Star Wars Land will allow visitors to fly the Millennium Falcon in what they described as a "customized secret mission". While Disney declined to give any additional details about where Han Solo's bucket of bolts is heading, one obvious choice is Kessel, a desolate mining planet and starting point of the notorious Kessel Run, a famous route used by smugglers to move drugs off the planet. While the Kessel Run typically runs 18 parsecs in length, Han Solo bragged that the Millennium Falcon made the run in 12 parsecs by flying perilously close to the Maw, a collection of black holes near the planet. So, who wouldn't want to be on the Millennium Falcon as it tried to repeat its record, dodging black holes and Star Destroyers along the way?

With all the shooting and firefights that occur in the Star Wars Universe, a Star Wars themed shooting gallery seems like a great idea. Disney World already has the formula down pretty pat with Toy Story Midway Mania and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, two rides that send riders through a special interactive shooting gallery. Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing an Empire themed Training Academy, in which visitors undergo a series of shooting trials to test their abilities as a Stormtrooper. Shooting Battle Droids, Ewoks, Rebels (and maybe even a pestering Stormtrooper or two) would let fans experience what it's like to fight for the Dark Side. Of course, if riders perform too well at the Training Academy, they'd be forced to drop out, since everyone knows how awful Stormtroopers are at hitting their targets.

One of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace's few redeeming parts was its extended pod racer sequence, where Anakin Skywalker staved off a cast of colorful alien racers to win his freedom from the weird flying anteater alien Watto. Lucasfilms milked the Pod Racers for all its worth, creating several entertaining racing games that still occasionally appear in arcades across America. Disney has experience simulating high speeds races with their Test Track attraction, so why not make a Star Wars themed race track? Fans could race through the canyons and deserts of Tatooine, dueling other podracers and avoiding Tusken Raiders and Jawas. A Podracer track would not only incorporate elements from the Prequel Trilogy into Star Wars Land, it would also add some high speed thrills and danger.

When Star Wars Land was first announced, my first thought was "When do I get to go to the Mos Eisley Cantina?" Millions of fans would love to walk into an accurate replica of the infamous Tatooine bar where Luke Skywalker and Han Solo first met. You could get a blue (hopefully alcoholic) beverage at the bar, listen to the sounds of Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes, check out dozens of weird and bizarre aliens, and even sit in the booth where Obi-Wan hired Han and Chewie to take them to Alderaan. Maybe if we're lucky, we can even see the scorch marks from when Han fired first and turned the bounty hunter Greedo into a burnt husk.
prevnextThe Imperial March
Every section of Disney World has a parade that runs through the park daily, delighting fans and visitors with floats, songs and plenty of Disney characters. Of course, Star Wars Land needs a parade too, but one of a much more...Imperial nature .Just imagine, legions of Stormtroopers led by Darth Vader or Captain Phasma marching down the street of Main Street USA, Tomorrowland and Fantasyland flanked, the sun glinting off their gleaming white armor. Heck, I'm sure Disney could even find a way to sneak an AT-ST or a TIE Fighter or two into the parade to really wow the crowd. And you can bet John Williams' iconics Imperial March score would be blasting from every conceivable speaker.
