Episode nine, "The Battle for Red Hook," opens with Eichorst (Richard Sammell) recruiting a man at the shipyard to take him and the rest of his "private party" into Red Hook – offering serious cash. He then visits Kelly (Natalie Brown), who is sad about her failure and worries that Nora has replaced her in Zach's life.

At headquarters, Abraham (David Bradley) is panicking, because Kelly's visit means that the Master now knows where they are. The team collectively decides that the best course of action is to work with Justine Feraldo, who has way more weapons and access than they do. Fet (Kevin Durand) visits Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) to tell them about their new approach, but Dutch is unsure if she will go with them, leaving Nikki behind.

We then get a peek of Feraldo (Samantha Mathis) and the mayor in a meeting, where she's updating him on her new plan to push further into Brooklyn with their protection plan. The mayor wants her to jump to Manhattan – where his wealthier constituents live – but she is resistant. Ephraim (Corey Stoll) and Abraham break into their meeting, even though they've never met Justine, and they're quickly escorted away. Shortly after – Eichorst, Kelly, and a horde of vampires arrives via the boat from the beginning, turning the captain instead of paying him.

Eph and Abraham decide to wait nearby, until Nora and Fet come back, when suddenly – Eichorst kills the power for the entire area, killing their protective UV light. Abraham explains their vampires' likely game plan of sending in a short group of test soldiers, and then following through with the entire horde. Justine believes them and begins to rally the troupes. Eph, Nora (Mia Maestro), Fet, and Zach (Max Charles) go to the power plant to bring back the UV lights, while Abraham goes back home. He knows Eichorst will want to meet him there.

Nearby, Dutch and Nikki wake up in their apartment, after fighting earlier in the day. Dutch admitted to being in love with Fet, and Nikki admitted that she destroyed Dutch's computer. Dutch hops out of bed to go join the brawl, telling Nikki to stay home and safe. Outside, Feraldo realizes that they do not have enough manpower to fight, so she begins to drive through the streets with a megaphone, rallying together the people, saying "we fight, or we die."

Eph and the others snake through the power plant, taking out vamps as they go, until they find the control room. One of the vampires has identified Zach, sending that information to Kelly. While Nora and Fet try to work out the mechanics, Eph leaves them and Zach to help Abraham fight Eichorst.

As Nora and Fet are rapidly trying to get the lights back on, the battle begins. An enormous horde of vampires clashes into a large group of civilians, and a body-to-body brawl ensues. We see Dutch taking out a few vampires – and then, we see that Nikki has joined the fray as well, even saving Dutch at one point. Nora finally gets the lights back on, and the Battle of Red Hook ends suddenly, with streams of UV light beating down on the burning, shrieking vampires.

At this time, Kelly appears outside of the control room. Nora and Fet team up to protect Zach, with Fet going directly after her, chasing her around the building. Kelly eventually attacks Fet from behind, but Fet gets her in a chokehold with a metal bar. Just as it seems that she may overpower him, a group of police officers appear and begin to shoot at her. She escapes, but not before some of her worms seep out onto Fet. It's unclear whether or not he has become infected.

Back at basecamp, Eichorst pokes around, looking for Abraham. The power comes back – infuriating him – and Abraham reveals himself to be waiting outside, with his sword. When Eichorst realizes that Eph is also acting backup as a sniper in the next building, he goes after him, catching up to Eph incredibly fast. The two play a game of cat and mouse, while Eichorst taunts Eph about his heritage and his poor relationship with Kelly. Just as it becomes clear that Eichorst's reflexes are too good for him to be shot by one person, Abraham shoots him from above, getting him in the shoulder. Eph is able to get some shots in too, once Eichorst has been weakened, but he still manages to escape.

In town – Fet, Nora, and Zach meet with Dutch and Nikki, who recall the battle proudly. Eph and Abraham meet up with the crew as well, and hugs and smiles are shared all around. Feraldo gets back on the megaphone, congratulating the town for their courage and calling the battle a turning point of sorts for the war.
