Box Office: Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation & Minions Open Big In China

Today, Universal and Illumination's Minions made its Middle Kingdom debut and pulled in $20.1M (125M yuan). That's the biggest opening day for an animated film ever in China, eclipsing Kung Fu Panda 2's previous record (81M yuan). For the entire weekend, Minions grossed $26.1 million from 57 markets.

Minions global total now stands at $1.08B, surpassing Toy Story 3 ($1.07B) to become the No. 2 animated film of all time. Now the only question is: Does it have enough in the tank to beat Frozen ($1.28B)?

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation is also cleaning up at the China box office. It opened there on Tuesday and has already grossed $86 million, making it the biggest China opening for the action-packed franchise. Rogue Nation now has a foreign total of $424.8M and a worldwide total of $613M.
