ComicBook Countdown for the Week of September 14

There's nary a week when great comics, movies, or television shows aren't all vying for our attention. It can be hard to keep up with it all, but that's why we're here. Each Monday at ComicBook.Com, we take a look at the five most exciting things coming to the world of fandom to keep you in the know.

5. Tokyo Ghost #1 | Image Comics

Any time Sean Murphy or Rick Remender launches a new creator-owned series, it's worth paying attention. This week they're launching one together at Image titled Tokyo Ghost. This science-fiction odyssey features a futuristic Earth overrun with technology, where only Tokyo stands apart. Murphy's designs and preview pages look like some of his best work to date, packed with dense urban landscapes, wildly costumed characters, and a really cool looking motorcycle. Image has published a lot of great #1's this year, but Tokyo Ghost has what it takes to be one of the best.

4. Astro Boy Omnibus Vol. 1 | Dark Horse Comics

Here in the states Jack Kirby is the "King of Comics", but in Japan they have Osamu Tezuka, the "God of Manga". There are no two greater legacies in all of comics than this pair, and Dark Horse is bringing the English translation of one of Tezuka's most influential works back into print . That work is Astro Boy, the high soaring, super powered robot protector of Japan. This enormous omnibus collects over 700 pages of Astro Boy's earliest adventures, including the seminal "Greatest Robot on Earth", for the very reasonable price of $19.99.

3. Black Mass | Warner Bros. Pictures

Johnny Depp has spent most of the past decade striking out at the box office and on Rotten Tomatoes with a string of flops and lackluster roles unmatched by any other actor with his status. This Friday may be the start of a comeback though. Black Mass puts Depp in the starring role of Whitey Bolger, one of the greatest real life fugitives of all time, in a story so dark and violent that it feels like a classic Scorsese gangster flick. Hopefully, the crime drama will surprise us all this weekend.

2. SPX 2015 | Bethesda, MD

The biggest comic conventions across America, from San Diego to New York, have begun to resemble pop culture festivals more than a comic-centric gathering. If you're looking for a convention that's actually about comics, look no further than Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland this weekend. This event features an incredibly diverse array of comics and talent with superstars like Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics, The Sculptor) and Stuart Immonen (Nextwave, Star Wars) and rising talent like Noelle Stevenson (Nimona, Lumberjanes) and Michel Fiffe (COPRA). This show is really all about the best comics has to offer.

1. Captain America: White | Marvel Comics

It has been about a decade since the beloved duo of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale first announced Captain America: White. It was to be their fourth and final "color book" at Marvel, following hits like Spider-Man: Blue and Daredevil: Yellow. Yet the series never appeared, until now that is. Together, they'll be looking at one the origins of the first and still greatest heroes in Marvel's history. There's still very little information leaked about the project, but given the talent attached and their previous successes, this is undoubtedly a must-read for superhero fans.
