The Walking Dead's season 6 premiere may not have broken the unprecedented record set by season 5 a year ago but it still pulled in a monstrous audience.

14.6 million viewers tuned in Sunday night to watch Rick and the gang at Alexandria. The numbers are a slight drop from the previous two season premieres, with season 5 tallying 17.2 million and season 4 bringing 16.1 million, but still above the season average of the its predecessor, and above season 3's mark of 10.87 million. The premiere's rating on the Nielsen "live plus same-day" scale clocked in at a 7.43 in adults 18-49.

Despite the slightest drop from season 5's premiere and finale (15.78 million), The Walking Dead was still the number one show Sunday night, even topping a tight Sunday Night Football game between the Giants and 49ers.

The premiere episode, First Time Again, has earned a 4.5/5 rating amongst ComicBook.com users.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM EST on AMC.
