The Walking Dead spent seven episodes building the expectations for episode eight of its sixth season and the work paid off in the ratings.

AMC's zombie drama based on the Skybound and Image comics series reached a 7.0 rating in adults age 18-49, at about 14 million total viewers, according to Nielsen's "live plus same-day ratings," providing the series its highest marks since the season six premiere October 11.

In comparison to the season five mid-season finale in November of 2014, The Walking Dead saw about a 7% drop in the demo and 5% in total viewers, down from the 14.8 million it drew in episode 508.

The Walking Dead closes the season as the top-rated entertainment series of the fall.
