The force has awakened the global box office!

Thursday night in North America, J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens scooped up $57M and over the past two days the film has generated $72.7M from 44 international markets. That's a worldwide total of $129.7M in 48 hours. Bam! Now we're cooking!

"The seventh Star Wars movie smashed records for the biggest single day of all time in the U.K./Ireland with $14.4 million, Germany with $6.8 million, Sweden with $2.7 million and Norway with $1.1 million, reports Variety. "In addition to that quartet, "The Force Awakens" set opening day records in Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Belgium, Finland, Netherlands, Switzerland (French-speaking), Austria, Ukraine, Slovakia, Croatia, Iceland, Serbia, Chile and Peru."

Can it hunt down Jurassic World's international opening weekend record of $316.1M? We'll see!

In this continuation of the Star Wars saga, balance returns to the Force as the First Order, emerging from the ashes of the Empire, clashes with the Resistance, which includes scrappy newcomers as well as heroes from the former Rebel Alliance.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in U.S. theaters on December 18.
