Furious 7 has taken home the Favorite Movie trophy at The People's Choice Awards 2016. During his acceptance speech, franchise star Vin Diesel also said that he'd been handed a trophy for Favorite Action Movie.

"We have the best cast in the world; everybody that comes to be a part of Fast & Furious -- wow, there's a lot of you here. Universal's been so supportive; they asked me to be a producer ten years ago and they've supported me all along as I kind of crazily told them we could get to Fast 10," said Vin Diesel during his acceptance speech.

He also spoke about his feelings for his former co-star Paul Walker. "It was a labor of love," he said. "My only message to you is, you'd be amazed what you can do with love. You'd be amazed how powerful a force that is. We didn't want to come back to filming when the tragedy was too heavy. It was the combined love of everyone involved that got us through."

He thanked the fans for voting for the film.

The film won an Action Movie category that also included Avengers: Age of UltronThe Divergent Series: Insurgent, Jurassic World, and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials. The Favorite Movie category included Avengers: Age of UltronInside Out, Jurassic World, and Pitch Perfect.

For some reason, there wasn't much competition eligible there in the running, so The People's Choice Awards (whoever "The People" are), doesn't have any credibility. This only reeks of Sympathy Vote to me.

  1. "The People" are the public who can log in to vote.

I forgot to go back to the site to cast final votes, but I did vote for the initial nominees for 2016's awards.

But yes, "the people" do get a direct say in who gets TPC awards.

Sadly other than the recipients knowing what the public thinks of their work, it doesn't seem to influence the "real" awards at all.
