Agent Carter EPs Discuss Show's Connection To Doctor Strange And The Marvel Cinematic Universe

Marvel Television loves to use the phrase "it's all connected" in reference to the ties between their network shows, Netflix shows, and the Marvel Studios films. So what's the connection with Agent Carter Season 2? The mysterious substance called Zero Matter.

Zero Matter has appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe already, under a different name – Darkforce.

"Isodyne –who's like our version of Rocketdyne - they just named it 'Zero Matter,'" executive producer Michele Fazekas tells ComicBook.com. "They don't know what it is."

"Obviously Darkforce was in S.H.I.E.L.D. and has a connection with Doctor Strange," executive producer Tara Butters explains, in reference to the Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Season 1 episode "The Only Light in the Darkness," and the upcoming Marvel Studios film. "It is something from another dimension that has properties that when a person has been exposed to it, it can kill them, it can give them powers, and, with each person, potentially affects them differently. It definitely is part of the 'Marvel' of our season."

In the Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode in question, the Darkforce created the supervillain called Blackout. A connection to Doctor Strange, a film which has is said to touch on other dimensions of the MCU, could suggest a trip to the Darkforce Dimension.

The showrunners also spoke about Peggy Carter's other MCU connections, such as her appearance in last year's Ant-Man.

"It's funny. In the earlier Marvel movies, it was Coulson that kind of connected everything, and then at some point it feels like it became Peggy," Butters said. "Just as a viewer, I have to say I love it. For my kids, who are eight and ten, they started watching Agent Carter first, and then wanted to watch all the movies that Peggy was in. It was how they got into the Marvel Universe."

Agent Carter returns on Jan. 19 at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
