With a flick of the wrist, stories from the "Expanded Universe" went from canon to "Legends." While many Star Wars fans won't agree, I think the decision was good as it loosened the reins for future storytellers, while also not completely discarding everything. Now a new rumor claims that Star Wars Rebels will introduce a character that first appeared in the former "Expanded Universe."
"I have heard that in Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels we will be introduced to none other than the original blue guy himself, Grand Admiral Thrawn from Heir to the Empire," Making Star Wars reports. "From the sound of things, we’re going to see Thrawn as the tactical genius of capital starship warfare he was to Expanded Universe readers in the ’90s. However, this time he will be using his evil brand of genius against the the heroes of the starship Ghost."
Grand Admiral Thrawn was first appeared in Timothy Zahn's Thrawn trilogy (published between 1991 and 1993) — Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command.
Star Wars Rebels airs Wednesdays at 9PM ET/PT on Disney XD.
