The Walking Dead no longer has to hold off the NFL with Sunday Night Football for the remainder of its sixth season but this past weekend, competition was stiff with the Academy Awards for the eleventh episode of season six, Knots Untie.

Although the Oscars the second-lowest ratings in their history, The Walking Dead still saw a half point dip in the key demo, scoring a 6.1 rating in adults 18 to 49 and 12.7 million viewers in the range.

If the midseason premiere is any indication, we can expect to see a sizable jump when the Live+3 numbers come in from all of those who prefer to DVR the episodes and watch them later. It jumped about four million viewers with the updated numbers. That said, the midseason premiere came in on the heels of a midseason finale with the poorest reviews of any episode to date and proved to be a phenomenal episode, sparking much conversation and reason to go back and watch for those who were doubting it.

Talking Dead also saw a slight decrease in viewership, earning a 2.2 rating in the key demo with just under 4.9 million viewers.

All "slight drops" considered, The Walking Dead and Talking Dead were still the highest rated programs on cable Sunday night (quite comfortably, too), followed in third place by a repeat of last week's The Next World episode with a 2.2 rating.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 PM ET on AMC.
