Earlier this year, when HBO announced that they had ordered two more season of Game of Thrones, most fans probably assumed that meant they would get the pleasure of watching at least 20 more episodes of their beloved, Emmy-winning show. That's because every season, so far, has consisted of 10 episodes each. But based on recent comments from its showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, fans had better be prepared for seasons 7 and 8 to be much shorter.

"I think we're down to our final 13 episodes after this season," Benioff told Variety. "We're heading into the final lap. That's the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that's what we're looking at."

Variety added, "Sources later clarified those exact numbers were premature, given that the showrunners are now just beginning to outline their plans, but said that any upcoming seasons may be shorter than the full 10 episodes of seasons past."

Game of Thrones will go back into production in July.

Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones, titled "The Red Woman," will air Sunday, April 24.
