Even as it passed Iron Man on the all-time box office charts, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice fell out of the top five in North America this week, pushed down to #6 by another big new release.

What didn't suffer the wrath of new movies? The Jungle Book, which beat out newcomer The Huntsman: Winter's War by a huge margin, winning the weekend with $60 million against a $20 million #2.

That opening will make it difficult for The Huntsman: Winter's War to turn a profit on the strength of the domestic box office, although its precursor -- Snow White and the Huntsman -- made about 60% of its money in the international market.

Without the familiarity of Snow White in the title or the box office appeal of Kristen Stewart, The Huntsman earned about a third of Snow White and the Huntsman's $56 million opening weekend. The studio had hedged their bets, shaving about $50 million off this one's budget as compared to the first, so it's entirely possible this installment did just about what they expected.

The Jungle Book, meanwhile, continues to perform impressively. While not a massive blockbuster, the film's 40% drop is one of the best of 2016 in its second week and means that its domestic take will eclipse its production budget sometime this week.
