Sega's iconic ninja Shinobi is leaping into the world of film courtesy of Marc Platt.

Platt is known for shepherding films like Wanted, Drive, and Bridge of Spies as a producer, and will bring his talents to the project according to Deadline. In conjunction with Stories International, Inc, he will be working with Sega and Hakuhodo DY Group to bring the revenge seeking ninja to a new audience.

"We love the Shinobi games and believe that the world of ninjas has never been properly explored onscreen," said Platt in making the announcement. "We now have the opportunity to do just that. With Shinobi, we hope to make a film that honors the essence of the games."

The Shinobi games typically star someone from the Oboro clan seeking revenge against a rival clan or opponent to right some past wrong. The team really does have a blank slate creatively, and if the action is up to par, I'm sure they could bring the character back to relevance once again.
