Since the second trailer for the upcoming Paul Feig Directed Ghostbusters debuted, it seems some of the initial negativity towards the film has quieted down.

Part of that can be attributed to a new marketing campaign focused on diverting the vocal minority from spilling over into the general audience, started when Sony moved the second film's trailer debut to Facebook rather than debuting on Youtube. The trailer scored 7.7 million views with a 95% positive rating, as opposed to the #1 disliked video on Youtube legacy of the original trailer.

Sony domestic marketing President Dwight Caines (via THR) said:"What tends to happen with a beloved property is the fanboy or the fangirl shows up and says, 'How dare you remake this?' The people talking are such a tiny percentage of the people viewing. The first trailer got 70 million views. The number of people talking: less than 100,000, and they are trying to define the experience."

In hindsight, this isn't the first time the studio has had to deal with this. When they debuted Spider-Man in 2002 (Sam Raimi), it was met with a 65% negative reaction, and their Amazing Spider-Man reboot in 2012 was met with a similar 60% negative rating. Even the James Bond relaunching Casino Royale hit the same wall, scoring a 55% negative reaction. First impressions clearly aren't everything.

The movie studio recently held two screenings for the film, and according to Sony, the results were absurdly positive. Time will tell if that is accurate of most viewers, but that combined with the second trailer results put them in a much better place than they were in just a few months ago.
